Refugees reported today that the Polish town of Tomaszow-Lubelski had been completely destroyed and most of the Jewish population killed by the Nazis.
The Central Relief Committee for Polish Refugees met here under the chairmanship of Chief Rabbi Jakob Niemirower. Dr. Ignacy Schwartzbard and Anselm Reiss, Polish Jewish leaders, expressed gratitude for the efficient organization of relief in Bucharest and provincial centers.
Refugee centers are now functioning in Bucharest, Poesti, Buzau, Braila, Galatz, Constanza, Calarasi and Pucioasa. The relief consists mainly of provision of food, shelter and clothing for refugees, but the most important problem is considered to be the obtaining of funds for emigration, mainly to Palestine.
Many Jewish refugees in Rumania whose families had remained in Russian-occupied Poland have been returning to the Soviet zone via various frontier points, mainly Wisnitz. It is understood that the Soviet authorities are interposing no difficulties to their ret.
