Maurice Wertheim, former president of the American Jewish Committee, and noted philanthropist, died here last night of a heart attack. He was 64 years old.
An honorary trustee of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, Mr. Wertheim served as fund-raising chairman of the Federation in 1947. He was also a trustee of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Wertheim was a former publisher of the Nation and was also a founder and a former director of the New York Theatre Guild.
