Funeral services were held here today for Max Bassin, prominent Yiddish poet and anthologist, who died yesterday at the age of 74. His poems and essays were published in this country and abroad.
Born in Russia, Mr. Bassin came to New York City in 1908. Among the anthologies which he edited were “Five Hundred Years of Yiddish Poetry,” the first volume of which appeared in 1917, and the second in 1922, and “American Yiddish Poetry.” published in 1940. He had recently completed a five volume anthology, “A Treasury of Yiddish Literature, which has not yet been published.
