Max Zuckerman, Israel Development Corp, and Ampal Leader, Dies at 57

Max Zuckerman, Comptroller and Secretary of Israel Development Corp., died here last night of a heart attack. He was 57 years old and a resident of Flushing, Long Island.

Mr. Zuckerman, a graduate of Pace College, had been affiliated with Israel Development Corp. and Ampal for 25 years in various capacities. As head director of Israel Purchasing Service, Inc., a purchasing agent in the United States for Israeli enterprises, he was instrumental in sending vitally needed equipment to Israel during the War of Independence.

The Ampal Group is a financier of industrial, financial, commercial and agricultural enterprises in Israel, United States charitable organizations and Israeli governmental agencies concerned with the development of the Israeli economy.

Establishment of a Designated Professorship of Hebrew at Ohio State University was approved last week by the university’s Board of Trustees. A gift of $100,000 to the university’s Development Fund, pledged over the next five years by the United Jewish Fund and Council of Columbus, will support the new faculty position. The university’s ninth designated professorship will be in the Hebrew Program of the university’s College of Humanities.

More than 4.7 million lbs. of U.S.-donated Food for Peace supplies were distributed by the Joint Distribution Committee during 1972, it was reported by Samuel L.Haber, JDC executive vice-chairman.
