Supreme Court Justice Mitchell May will head the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities again for 1935, serving his fourth consecutive term since 1932.
His nomination to the post was announced last night by Oscar A. Lewis, who will present the 1935 slate to members of the federation at their twenty-fifth annual meeting Sunday afternoon at Union Temple, 7 Eastern parkway, Brooklyn.
At the same time, it was announced by Mrs. Allan D. Emil, who will present the 1935 slate for the women’s division when it too holds its fifth annual meeting Sunday, that Mrs. Nathan L. Goldstein has been nominated to the presidency of the women’s group. Mrs. Goldstein has been secretary of the federation for the last year. She will resign the secretaryship and will be elected instead to membership on the board of directors for a period of three years. Another new federation director for the three-year period will be Max Kiss.
MRS. BACHRACH TO RETIRE
Mrs. Goldstein’s nomination to the presidency was made after the announcement by Mrs. Clarence G. Bachrach, president of the division for 1934, that she will retire from that post to devote her time to other philanthropic and charitable activities connected with the federation. Mrs. Bachrach has been nominated as a member of the Federation’s board of directors for a two-year period.
Other new directors nominated for the two-year period are Mortimer Brenner, president of the United Jewish Aid Societies, principal family welfare group among the twenty-five constituent agencies of the Federation, and Samuel Shapiro. New directors nominated for the one-year period are David Berdon, Charles Jaffa and Walter A. Miller. Irving Leavitt and Charles Maslow are 1935 additions to the list of associate directors.
OTHER OFFICERS
Two new directors have been nominated for the board of the women’s division. They are Mrs. J. K. Colman and Mrs. Charles Fier.
Assistant District Attorney Ralph K. Jacobs, who was assistant secretary of the federation for 1934, has been nominated to succeed Mrs. Goldstein in the secretaryship of the organization. Other officers of the federation nominated for 1935, all to succeed themselves, are: vice-presidents, Harry M. Marks, Walter N. Rothschild, Mrs. William Linder and Municipal Court Justice Murray Hearn; treasurer, Joseph M. May; assistant treasurers, Benjamin C. Ribman and Murry C. Becker; assistant secretary, Max Abelman.
Invitations to outstanding philanthropic and relief leaders of the city, state and country have been Issued by the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities to participate in its twenty-fifth annual celebration of service to the community, to be held Sunday afternoon at Union Temple, 7 Eastern parkway, Brooklyn.
In issuing the invitations, Supreme Court Justice Mitchell May, president of the federation, asked for either direct participation in the semi-jubilee meeting by attending or as expression of their opinions of the federation’s activities.
