Mayor Jacques Chirac laid a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Jewish Martyr as France commemorated the Jews who were killed during the Nazi occupation of France. Chirac, who was welcomed in the memorial crypt by French Chief Rabbi Jacob Kaplan, seemed deeply moved.
