Considerable excitement has been aroused in the Jewish community of Melbourne over a number of Jewish sports clubs acting on the alleged permission of the Melbourne rabbinical court (beth din) to have organized sporting events on Saturday. Protesting against the suggestion that the rabbinical court had given such permission, Israel Brodie, chairman of the court, in his speech at the annual distribution of prizes of the United Education Board, said that the court has not and will not give permission for organized games on the Sabbath.
