Members of the North American Jewish Congress reaffirmed links among their national groups and their shared commitment to the World Jewish Congress agenda. Representatives of the NAJC, which is composed of World Jewish Congress affiliates from Canada, the United States and Mexico, met Monday and Tuesday in Mexico City. They agreed to hold annual plenary meetings. The dream has become a reality, NAJC Chairwoman Evelyn Sommer said, referring to the fact that it was the first continental conference of its type. Rabbi Marc Schneier, chairman of the WJC’s American Section, announced initiatives to channel the Jewish-Latino partnership in the United States to support and defend small and vulnerable Jewish communities in Central and Latin America. Delegates to the assembly also heard addresses from Gregg Rickman, the U.S. government anti-Semitism envoy; Cardinal Norberto Rivera, archbishop of Mexico City; and Mayor Marcelo Ebrard.
