Members of World Likud on Sunday selected Natan Sharansky as their candidate for the Jewish Agency chairmanship. The former Cabinet minister will face off against Ra’anana Mayor Zeev Bielski, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s candidate, when the Zionist General Council votes Wednesday for chairman of the agency and the World Zionist Organization. Sharansky’s victory Sunday comes after a poll commissioned by the World Likud Association on the eve of the vote showed that of 500 Israelis surveyed, 72 percent favored Sharansky for the Jewish Agency job, to 28 who preferred Bielski.
