Membership in Jewish centers and YM and YWHA’s affiliated with the National Jewish Welfare Board reached 606, 000 last year, the JWB reported today. The report also showed that 349 full-time and part-time Jewish chaplains served Jewish servicemen in the United States and abroad.
The JWB, the national association of Jewish centers and YM-YWHA’s, also noted in its 1958 annual report, that 27, 465 recreational, cultural, religious and social programs were conducted for the armed services. The JWB is the government -authorized agency for religious, morale and welfare activities for Jewish servicemen and hospitalized veterans.
