A committee under the patronage of the Queen Mother Elizabeth, with Chief Rabbi Robert Dreyfuss as chairman, was established here today to arrange for the construction of a shrine commemorating the 25,000 Belgian Jews deported by the Nazis to extermination camps.
The cornerstone for the memorial, which will cost $70,000 to be raised from the Jewish community, is scheduled to be laid in March. The committee, which includes such leading public figures as Cardinal Suenens, primate of Belgium, the president of the Senate and the Minister of Education, comprises representatives of all branches of Belgian Jewry.
