Five hundred children and young people attended on Friday night and Saturday services held at the Jacob H. Schiff Centre in the Bronx, in memory of Jacob H. Schiff, the great Jewish philanthropist, on the occasion of the 85th. anniversary of his birth, which occurred on Friday.
Judge Samuel Levy, a life-long friend of Jacob H. Schiff, spoke at the Friday night service and Professor Louis Finklestein of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, was the speaker at the Saturday service, taking as his subject the life and influence of Jacob H. Schiff.
Mrs. Jacob H. Schiff, the widow, and Mrs. Felix M. Warburg, their daughter, were the guests of honour.
42 Jewish young people’s clubs took part in the services. The children saluted a large oil-painting of Jacob H. Schiff, and a wreath was deposited at its base.
Mr. Jacob H. Schiff died in New York in 1920. The Jacob H. Schiff Centre was started soon after his death, and was dedicated five years after.
