The ban against membership of Jews in the Transvaal section of the Nationalist Party will be lifted with the forthcoming amalgamation of the Nationalist and Africans Parties, it was learned here today. An informed and reliable Nationalist source said that this action will be the “inevitable consequence” of the merger agreement which will open membership in the combined party to all sections of the white population of the Union.
The program of the group, which has just been published here, pledges that the new party will work for national stability “based on a common and undivided loyalty to South Africa and its interests; on mutual trust; on recognition of the equal rights it both the Africans and English-speaking sections of the population; and on a reciprocal appreciation of the cultural contributions of each.” Another clause in the program asserts that the party stands for “just and equal treatment” of all sections of the population and for “non-partisan maintenance of the rights and privileges of each section of the population.”
