Prime Minister Levi Eshkol, Chief of Staff Zvi Tsur, Agriculture Minister Moshe Dayan and Yaakov Tzur, world chairman of the Jewish National Fund, took part here today in dedication ceremonies for Mai Ami, a new outpost established on the Jordanian border by Nahal, Israel’s military-agricultural service.
The name of the settlement, which means “Waters of My People,” is a Hebraized form of the name Miami, in honor of the Jewish community of that American city which provided the funds for the establishment of the outpost. During the dedication ceremonies the first trees were planted of what the JNF plans as a 200-tree forest for the settlement. In order to make the new settlement easily accessible, the JNF constructed a special road linking it with the main highway, and an additional road linking Mai Ami with the Arab villages situated on the Israel side of the nearby border.
General Tzur, who recently visited the United States, brought greetings on behalf of the Miami community, and assured the young settlers of continued spiritual and material support to develop the Miami project.
