A federal judge yesterday gave the Somerfin Ltd. 20 days to fill replies to suits filed by 30 creditors against one of its cruise ships, the Nili, which has been tied up here since November 18.
The Israel Government, which has made substantial loans to the Geneva-based Israeli ship company, filed suit in federal court here to foreclose on the Nili on an $8, 000, 000 mortgage. The ship is scheduled to be sold at public auction on January 30. Israel is expected to be the high bidder to protect its mortgage. After the ship was seized, eight other claims were filed against it.
(The issue has caused criticism of the Government in Israel and the matter is now before the Israel State Comptroller on request of Parliament.)
