Circuit Court Judge John Prunty today officially approved adoption of six-year-old Hildy McCoy by Mr. and Mrs. Melvin B. Ellis, Jewish couple who cared for the child since she was 10 months old.
Judge Prunty said the child “shall be hereafter known as Hildy Ellis.” He ruled the Ellises fit and proper persons to adopt the child and that the child’s best interests would be promoted by this adoption. The child’s mother, a Roman Catholic, had sought to regain custody.
