Governor G. Mennen Williams has asked the Michigan Legislature to amend the existing election laws to make it possible for voters prevented from casting their ballots for religious reasons to vote by absentee ballot.

The Governor’s request was made after it was pointed out by the Detroit Jewish Comminity Council that state primaries this year will take place on the first day of Rosh Hashanah, making it impossible for religious Jews to participate in the balloting.
