The State House of Representatives adopted the humane slaughter bill, including the Case amendment which was incorporated in the Federal Bill, with an added provision aimed at protecting Shechita, the Jewish method of slaughter.
Senator Charles Blondy said in a statement to The Jewish Jews of Detroit that the bill as adopted protects the Jewish method of Shechita which is viewed as humane in the Case Amendment. Sanatory Blondy said that the bill must clear the Senate agricultural committee before April 4 before going to the floor of the State Senate. He expressed the hope Jewish rights, in accordance with traditional Shechita provisions, will be fully protected in the final action. Senator Stahelin, Republican leader, is cooperating with Senator Blondy and others in being on the alert to assure full protection of the religious rights of Jews and others who are interested in the measure.
