The Michigan Tourist Council, a state-financed agency, has barred advertising in the 1955 Regional Guide Books of the Michigan Tourist Association of a group of resorts which distribute literature containing such phrases as “Gentile only” and other discriminatory language.
The Jewish Community Council of Detroit had called the attention of the Council to the activities of this group. Previously, the Council had agreed to the policy that resorts which either distribute discriminatory literature or actually discriminate on the basis of race or religion, would not be eligible for the promotional assistance of the Tourist Council.
