The Middle East conflict was one of the major items on the agenda of President Georges Pompidou’s talks with Kremlin leaders in Moscow today, it was reported here. Both countries are said to have agreed on the need for a peaceful settlement. According to reports from Moscow, M. Pompidou stressed that France was deeply involved in the Mideast problem because of its historic interests in North Africa and the Levant. He is also reported to have stated that France is a Mediterranean power and intends to remain one.
