Marking the first anniversary of the completion of its present building, the Jewish Community Center has set aside Chanukah week for open house, Chanukah and anniversary programs.
The feature event is the anniversary banquet this evening, with Judge Charles C. Simons of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals as principal speaker. Other speakers include Judge Charles Rubiner, president of the center; Henry Wineman and Kurt Peiser, chairman of the board and executive director of the Jewish Welfare Federation, and Louis H. Sobel, executive director of the center.
The anniversary week program opened Saturday evening with a Maccabiad sports night. Harry Werbin and Louis Abelson, members of the American team which participated in the Palestine Maccabiad in 1932, were guest speakers.
Karl Svab, Hungrain land proprietor, took part as lieutenant in the Hungarian struggle for liberty, and having resumed his agricultural pursuits on the restoration of p###, was #ade a life member of the Hungarian Upper House by Francis Joseph I.
