Under the auspices of the Chicago Rabbinical Association, Rabbi G. George Fox has been appointed chairman of a committee on State Religious Activities, to administer to the religious needs of Jewish inmates in various state institutions. He recently visited these institutions and apportioned the work of religious ministration among a number of rabbis. Rabbi David Rosenbaum of Temple Judea has agreed to visit the state prisons in Joliet and Stateville twice a month, beginning after the High Holidays. For Rosh Hashonah and Yom Kippur, Dr. Abraham Cronbach of Cincinnati has volunteered to visit the two prisons and conduct services.
Annually it has been the custom to provide food for the Jewish prisoners for the two days of Rosh Hashonah and the meals before and after the fast of Yom Kippur, to enable them to observe the High Holidays properly. Rabbis Fox and Rosenbaum are acting as a committee of two to raise $400 to pay for this food.
