The Milwaukee section of the National Council of Jewish Women called on the city government today to enact a strong open housing ordinance “which will guarantee the right of all citizens in our community to buy, rent or lease property, without fear of discrimination because of color, race or creed.”

The organization, which has 1,600 members, voiced objections to proposals for a citywide referendum on the housing situation, “because it is a vehicle whereby the City of Milwaukee public officials are abdicating their clear duty to uphold minority rights,”
