Minister of Justice Yaacov Shapiro will recommend the appointment of an Arab judge to the Jerusalem District Court, it was learned from ministry sources today. The ministry did not confirm reports that the candidate selected was an East Jerusalem lawyer. Arab lawyers on the West Bank and in East Jerusalem have been on strike for more than 18 months on orders from the Jordanian Government not to practice under Israeli occupation. Several however have resumed their practices.
