Miss Elizabeth Simon, holder of the title “Miss Europe,” who did not go to the United States to participate in the Galveston beauty contest, protested here at the choice of Miss Lisl Goldarbeiter, holder of the title “Miss Austria,” as “Miss Universe” at the Galveston pageant.

In a statement to newspapermen Miss Simon, who is here on a visit from Budapest, declared the Galveston choice was not valid. “The election of “Miss Universe” can be held only at Deauville. I am ready to take up the challenge of the New York girl, Irene Ahlberg, who was chosen “Miss America.” I remained away from Galveston because the main purpose of the contest there was to select movie stars,” she said.
