Konstanty J. Jaroszewicz, president of the Union of Churches of Christ, which carries on missionary work in Poland, Russia and Rumania, today defended the Polish Republic against charges of anti-Semitism which he attributed to Sholem Asch.
In a letter to the New York World-Telegram he described as “inconceivable” a statement by Mr. Asch that the need for relief in Poland was even greater than in the days of the post-war relief program. “Mr. Asch does not see that he is becoming an instrument to arouse the hatred in the hearts of the Gentiles toward his own people so that they might be driven out of the Gentile counties,” the missionary leader said.
