A proposal that the Hapoel Hamizrachi and Mizrachi merge on a worldwide basis was rejected by a special committee set up by the Hapoel Hamizrachi to study the question, the Orthodox Zionist Laborite group announced today. The committee was established after a number of speakers at the Mizrachi Laborite convention in Greenfield Park, N. Y., last week expressed sup-port of the merger proposal.
The special committee adopted a resolution requesting that “Hapoel Hamizrachi and Mizrachi set up a federation with a joint board in every country for the purpose of undertaking joint action in matters of mutual interest, Such joint activities for the purpose of fostering religious Jewish life in Israel and the Diaspora could be in the field of public relations and Jewish education, fund-raising and in our relations with inter-organizational institutions.”
