The World Conference of the Mizrach-Hapoel Hamizrachi concluded here today with the adoption of a resolution calling for the establishment of a “supreme authority for religious education” and for a special department of the movement to provide rabbis and shochtim (ritual slaughterers) from Israel to communities abroad. The delegates also voted to establish a world religious teachers organization.
The delegates expressed concern over efforts by “Conservatives and their like” to establish centers here “alien to the Torah of Israel.” Other resolutions called on the Soviet Union to open its gates to Jews wishing to go to Israel, and called for free access by Jordan to the Wailing Wall and other religious shrines in Jordan-held territory as provided in the Israel-Jordan Armistice agreement.
The conference elected 15 members of the movement’s executive to be headed by the incumbent chairman A. L. Galman and including 10 Israelis and five members from abroad.
