A “miniature Point Four” plan to aid Jews in the backward areas of Iraq, North Africa, and other Middle Eastern countries was announced here today by Near Mizrachi and the Junior Mizrachi Women, the national youth divisions of the American religious-Zionist movement.
The plan calls for a number of select young Mizrachi people to serve one year in these neglected Jewish communities, as well as in the religious communities of Israel. The small-scale “Point Four” proposal was drafted at a recent camp conference of both Mizrachi youth groups, held at Camp Monroe, N.Y., with 75 delegates from all parts of the country attending.
It was also announced that both youth movements will undertake a “planned aliyah” program to Israel, with a view to providing personnel for specific positions, rather than sending manpower simlessly. In this connection, both Near Mizrachi and the Junior Mizrachi Women expect to establish industrial project units which will contribute to Israel’s economy and absorb American Jewish youths. Rabbi Aaron B. Seidman, executive director of Near Mizrachi, simultanecualy revealed a plan calling for the interchange of students between Near Mizrachi in this country and the Mizrachi school system in Israel.
