The Town Planning Commission of the Northern District of Palestine has accepted a modern, comprehensive town development plan for some 10,000 acres in the Haifa Bay region, where one of the world’s new cities is coming into existence, the Palestine Economic Corporation announced today.
The plan, prepared in 1929 by Prof. Patrick Abercrombie, of Liverpool University, and Clifford Holliday, of Palestine, embraces an area between Carmel and Acre, acquired by the Corporation and the Jewish National Fund in 1928, which has been developed to the point where it is becoming the chief industrial center of Palestine.
It contemplates the division of the industrial zone into areas where light manufacturing and heavy industries are permitted.
Fifty industries have already been established and about 1,500 homes constructed within the residential area along the lines of the plan. Modern systems to meet present and future demands for water and sanitation are being worked out. Transportation facilities and the establishment of synagogues, schools, dispensaries and other public building are keeping pace with the city’s rapid growth.
