The economic position of the Jewish artisan was discussed at a conference of Jewish artisans from five districts in Eastern Poland, representing ten thousand workers.
Complaint was voiced by the Jewish bakers because of the requirements that modern machinery be introduced in the bakeshops. While many lost their shops, due to inability to purchase the new equipment, even those bakeries where electric machinery has been installed suffer. In many small towns the electric supply is shut off at midnight. The bakers, then, can only work one shift.
Disapproval was also expressed against the management of the cooperative banks and against the abolition of long term loans.
