Grand Duchess Victoria Feodorovna Cyril was invited to ride free by the French Line and was given free lodging and board at American hotels.
This was admitted by Mrs. Henry P. Loomis, President of the Colonial Dames of America, prime mover in organizing the Monday Opera Club.
Hundreds of persons, after being approved by the Membership Committee of the Monday Opera Club, were permitted to pay $10 apiece for the benefit of Russian relief work; and they received in turn the privilege of meeting the Grand Duchess socially. Thousands of dollars for Russian relief” by courtesy of the Monday Opera Club, will follow the Grand Duchess Cyril to Europe.
“Weren’t you surprised to find a republican country so interested in royalty?” she was asked.
“Yes”, she said. “I was very surprised and pleased. I found you understood which countries need it.
“I hope this is only my first visit to America”, the Grand Duchess said.
