The campaign of the Canadian National Committee on Refugees to obtain 500,000 signatures on a petition to the government to open the doors of the country for thousands of refugees was today endorsed by the Rt. Rev. John Dixon, Lord Bishop of Montreal.
The Bishop declared that the committee is engaged in a campaign to help the victims of spiritual and political oppression and that for Canadians to refuse in this hour of their agony those who are so sorely in need, would be “a denial of our Christian profession and a grave moral failure.”
His Lordship also reminded the Canadian people that in still enjoying the blessings of liberty, of material plenty and spiritual freedom they are called upon to offer the oppressed sanctuary and safety.
