The local 1951 United Israel Appeal–the first launched under the auspices of the National Conference for Israel and Jewish Rehabilitation–exceeded its objective, according to an announcement by Moe Levitt, the campaign chairman.
The sum of $1,837,992 has been raised. The objective was $1,837,500. Of this amount $617,500 had previously been contributed to the United Jewish Relief Campaign while in the past month, the United Israel Appeal canvassers raised $1,220,492. A moving tribute to Mr. Levitt was paid by Samuel E. Schwisberg, co-president of the Zionist Organization of Canada.
