Mayor Fernand Rinfret of Montreal, former Minister of State in the Liberal government, last night added his voice to the condemnation of the anti-Semitic campaign of the Goglu publications uttered by political leaders.
Addressing a meeting of the local B’nai Brith, Mayor Rinfret expressed satisfaction that the anti-Semitic agitation had been exposed and indicted by Justice Desaulniers. He stated his regret moreover that no judicial action against these papers is possible.
Mayor Rinfret indicated that Premier Taschereau’s recent condemnation of the Goglu publications is possibly the forerunner to legislative action to create the necessary legal machinery to halt such agitation.
He feels it necessary, he said, to ask the foregiveness of the Jewish community for the small French Canadian minority who may be influenced by the Goglu publications.
