— The Moral Majority, which is headed by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, declared today that “One cannot belong to Moral Majority Inc. without making the commitment to support the state of Israel in its battle for survival and to support the human and civil rights of Jewish people everywhere. No anti-Semitic influence is allowed in Moral Majority Inc.”
That statement was contained in a full page advertisement in the New York Times explaining “how Moral Majority Inc. stands on today’s vital issues”. The paragraph on Israel said:
“We support the state of Israel and Jewish people everywhere. It is impossible to separate the state of Israel from the Jewish family internationally. Many Moral Majority Inc. members, because of their theological convictions, are committed to the Jewish people. Others stand upon the human and civil rights of all persons as a premise for support of the state of Israel. Others support Israel because of historical and legal arguments.
“Regardless, one cannot belong to Moral Majority Inc. without making a commitment to support the state of Israel in its battle for survival and to support the human and civil rights of Jewish people everywhere. No anti-Semitic influence is allowed in Moral Majority Inc. (that sentence was printed in bold face type.) Further, Moral Majority Inc. is committed to the human and civil rights of all persons everywhere.”
