The Israel Navy has ordered six more of the Reshef type missile boats and Haifa Shipyards which builds them has reported potential buyers abroad. Two Reshef type boats, the Yaffo and Tarshish, are presently on a good will visit to the United States in connection with the American Bicentennial. Sources here said the government was considering extending their cruise to South America where a market for such craft exists.
The Israel Navy has six and the new orders will double their number providing Israel with a substantial naval striking force far from home. The Reshef boats have a cruising range of 4000 miles–four times the range of the older Saartype boats in the Israel Navy. Each carries seven Israel-made “Gabriel” surface-to-surface missiles in addition to other armaments and sophisticated electronic equipment.
