More than 1,000 Ethiopian immigrants staged a mass demonstration in Jerusalem to demand that Israel accept all those remaining in Ethiopia who wish to settle in Israel. The Israeli government shut down its immigration program in Ethiopia last summer but several thousand seeking to make aliyah remain behind, many of them in poor health. Tuesday’s protest took place outside the convention hall where the UJA Federations of North America was holding its annual General Assembly.
