More than 2,000 persons attended a banquet here last night organized by the Argentine Committee to Celebrate Israel’s Tenth Anniversary. The function took on political significance when Vice-President-Elect Dr. Alejandro Gomez made one of the major speeches. Representatives of virtually every Argentine Party were present as were several military leaders.
Israel’s anniversary was also observed here in a gala affair held at the Colon Theater, which was arranged by the DALA and the committee for the observance of the anniversary. Among the distinguished guests were members of the Argentine Cabinet. The diplomatic corps was represented by the ambassadors of the four Great Powers. Juan Jose Castro, noted conductor, directed a concert which included the Israeli Suite of Paul Ben Haim. The event began with the playing of the national anthems of Argentine and Israel.
