The Warsaw radio today reported that a total of 20,425 Jews are now residing in Lodz. This number includes 10,826 Jews who were repatriated from concentration camps. The majority are being cared for by the provisional Jewish Welfare Committee.
The broadcast said that each of the repatriated Jews receives fifty zlotys and a small food allowance upon reaching Lodz. The aged and infirm receive from one hundred to five hundred zlotys each. The committee is now caring for 1,139 Jewish orphans many of whom lived in Polish homes during the German occupation. About nine hundred Jewish youths are receiving vocational training and are simultaneously given employment, to prevent their demoralization, the broadcast reported.
