Heber J. Grant, president of the Latter-day Saint or Mormon Church, paid a tribute to former Governor Simon Bamberger of Utah at the funeral of the distinguished Utah Jewish businessman and statesman which took place at the Jewish Temple yesterday. In the course of his address, President Grant spoke of the mission of the late Orson Hyde, apostle of the Mormon Church, who went to Jerusalem in the late 40’s and “dedicated the land to the return of the Jews.” “I am convinced,” he said, “that there is no body of religious worshippers on earth who have a greater faith in the ultimate destinies of the Jewish people than the Latter-day Saints. We look for this people to come into their own and to once more enjoy great prestige and influence in the land of their fathers.” He praised Mr. Bamberger for his tolerance of other faiths.
Several high Mormon officials were among the prominent men of the city and state who attended the funeral, which was under the direction of Rabbi Gordon.
