Italy’s Foreign Minister Aldo Moro expressed serious concern yesterday over the situation in the Middle East. He told the Senate’s foreign affairs committee that in his view peace prospects are remote. He said the Jarring Mission yielded no results and the peace initiative launched by U.S. Secretary of State William P. Rogers nearly a year ago “has been overtaken by the same fate.” More said it was unrealistic to harbor illusions about the Middle East and added that he wasn’t sure the present truce would endure. Italy wants the Suez, Canal reopened but there is nothing the Italian government can do about it in the present circumstances, Moro told the lawmakers.
