The Government newspaper, Al Fajr, declared in an editorial comment today on recent events affecting Moroccan Jews–particularly the foundering of the Price, the vessel in which more than 40 Moroccan Jews perished–that Jews ought not to be considered Moroccans any longer “since their one aim is to leave Morocco.”
In Casablanca, another in a series of incidents was provoked today by Moslems against Jews in a motion picture theater. A young Jew was seriously injured in the incident. The theater is showing a film, “Mein Kampf, ” which deals with Nazi atrocities. Young Moslem nationalists are reported responsible for the incident.
(Jewish communities in many countries are holding memorial prayers for the Moroccan Jews who perished in the ship disaster, according to reports received in Jerusalem today by the Jewish Agency. Similar prayers will be said during the coming Sabbath services. The Agency also reported that many Protestant churches in Switzerland have decided to hold memorial services for the victims.)
In Algiers, police were forced to open fire yesterday to disperse a mob of 300 Arabs who were threatening two Jews in a suburb there. The Moslems had accused the Jews of knocking on the doors of Moslem houses. There had been rumors that non-Moslems “disguised as soldiers” had knocked on doors and tried to enter Moslem homes.
