The Jerusalem municipality awarded prize today for the best Sukkahs built by city residents, while the Jewish population throughout Israel prepare to bring the week-long Sukkoth holiday to a climax with joyous Simchat Torah celebrations. The first prize went to a Moroccan immigrant, father of seven children, who built his first Sukkah in Israel this year.
During the past week tens of thousands of pilgrims undertook the climb up Mt. Zion to stand and look down on the Wailing Wall, just a few hundred yards away in Jordan territory. The annual open house offered by President Ben Zvi during the intermediate days of Sukkoth drew thousands of visitors, many bringing bouquets. Young and old, representing every walk of life in Israel, the visitors filed past the President and Mrs. Ben Zvi, receiving season’s greetings. The greetings of the Moslem and Druze citizens of Israel were conveyed to the First Family by the elders of those communities.
