A prominent Rabat Jew, Baruch Dahan, was arrested yesterday by the Moroccan police and reportedly charged with misuse of public funds and corruption of state officials. Dahan is a former member of the Jewish community’s Executive Committee and a realtor. According to Jewish sources here. Dahan was arrested because of his personal close links with former Moroccan Finance Minister Mamoun Tahiri who is also being detained. These sources believe that Dahan’s arrest must be attributed to the current campaign by King Hassan II against “speculators and corrupt officials” and has no anti-Semitic motivations in spite of Dahan’s close links with the local Jewish community.
