A resolution proposing that Moroccan Jews be granted all political and civil rights, including the right to vote, was adopted at a three-day congress of Moroccan nationalist leaders at Rabat, it was reported here today.
The resolution also calls for the Jews to be represented in all Moroccan legislative bodies and to have free access to all activities in the Moroccan state. Another resolution adopted at the congress, which demanded a free and democratic Morocco, would grant equality of treatment to all citizens, regardless of race or religion.
The Paris press reported today from Morocco that Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Youssef, in his search for educated young Moroccans to place in executive positions in the new administration, has discovered that two-thirds of the available candidates are Jews, it was reported in the Paris press today. The report said that a list of young Moroccans with baccalaureate degrees, compiled at the Sultan’s request, had 296 names on it, at least 200 of whom are Jews.
Another report from Morocco said today that a Jew was killed and four others were injured in the Moroccan town of Taourirt, near Oujda, yesterday. The dispatch said the Jews were victimized when two shops owned by Jews were attacked by a Moslem mob.
