An appeal to “the force of world opinion” to try to prevent the “certain death by hanging” of 37 black Southwest African patriots now on trial behind closed doors in South Africa, was issued here this weekend by Morris B. Abram, U.S. representative on the United Nations Commission on Human Rights and senior advisor to the U.S. delegation to the U.N.
Mr. Abram’s plea, made as a private individual, was delivered before the biennial convention of the United Nations Association of the United States. Mr. Abram, who is also president of the American Jewish Committee, said the trial was being held virtually in camera because newspapers have been barred and it has received little or no press attention anywhere.
