For the past three days there has been an exchange of mortar fire between Arab terrorists north of the Litani River and south Lebanese Christians in the villages of Marj Ayoun and klea. The shells actually go over the heads of troops of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Beirut Radio reported today that the Nabitiyeh power station was hit by shells three days ago and some 70 villages in south Lebanon have been out of electricity since.
Meanwhile, Maj. Saad Haddad, commander of the Christian forces in south Lebanon, yesterday called for the resignation of UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim because he said UNIFIL was doing nothing to prevent the return of terrorists to the area. He said the inactivity of UNIFIL since last week’s clashes between French troops and terrorists in the Tyre area was an indication of Waldheim’s shortcomings.
