Charges of speculation in the imported matzoth were directed against the Moscow Kehillah leaders by the Communist daily, “Emes,” which is carrying on a campaign against the distribution of matzoth.
The newspaper charged that the matzoth imported under the agreement with the Soviet authorities are being sold at a price of 25 roubles per pud-Since the sale is prohibited, the leaders have resorted to another method, asking the customers to contribute toward the Moes Chittim (poor fund).
These charges met with a categorical denial by the Kehillah leaders who declared that they are fulfilling in letter and in spirit the agreement with the Commissariat of Trade.
