Rabbi Pinhas Teitz, a leading Orthodox rabbi, said today he had received a cable of New Year greetings, addressed to all Jews in the United States, from Rabbi Yaacov Fishman, Chief Rabbi of Moscow, and Ephraim Kaplun, head of the Moscow Jewish community. The cable expressed the hope that Jews everywhere would be granted through their prayers a year of peace for Jews and for the world. Rabbi Teitz said that such a message could not have been sent without the approval of Soviet authorities and that its transmittal might indicate a possible expression of policy by the Soviet Union.
